Corporate Citizenship: Global Reach & Local Action
Client Focus
We seek to be a trusted partner to all the organisations we work with and align our ethos to those we invest for.
Integrity
Responsibility and accountability are key inputs in helping us drive our actions—in portfolios, in our organization and in our communities.
Initiative
The world is constantly changing. As a business we strive to evolve our activities to respond accordingly and encourage employees to make a positive impact.
Teamwork
Together we can achieve more. We believe that through working collectively and with other stakeholders, we can help ensure positive change.
A Strong Governance Structure
We believe accountability drives progress. That's why a robust governance structure underpins Matthews' corporate social responsibility.
The Corporate Citizenship and Sustainability Committee was formed in 2022 and is responsible for guiding and overseeing our dedicated Sub-Committees focused on responsible investment and stewardship, diversity and inclusion, and sustainability.
Community
The Matthews Sustainability Sub-Committee organizes our annual “Impact Month” which encourages employees to give back to the communities in which we live and operate.
We boost fundraising and donations through matching charitable contributions schemes. In 2022, more than 60% of our U.S. employees participated in this program.
In addition, we provide grants to select partner organizations that conduct their programs across different parts of Emerging Markets and Asia.
Environment
Our headquarters obtained Gold LEED certification in 2014. The LEED rating framework evaluates the environmental performance of buildings and measures their sustainability.
Since 2016, the Sustainability Sub-Committee created a carbon offset program for business travel, linked to benefit emerging markets projects. They also regularly organize education and events to promote sustainability.
Furthermore, we support charities and organizations focused on protecting the environment.
In 2022, Matthews proudly supported the following organizations focused on education, poverty alleviation and economic opportunity:

We are a UN’s Principles For Responsible Investment (UNPRI) signatory since February 2016.
